Screening for SARS

 The New Normal
In the post-SARS healthcare environment, healthcare professionals in Canada and worldwide will be adapting to the "new normal." Continued vigilance is required to prevent the spread of SARS and similar illnesses. A large part of this involves enhanced surveillance of patients that present with respiratory illnesses.

The links from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care focus primarily on patient screening in the event of a future outbreak. The links from Health Canada outline a surveillance strategy for any severe respiratory illnesses (SRI). While these policies are primarily designed for hospitals, they should be reviewed by all healthcare professionals to determine how they should be adapted to their practices.
