infections: what have we learnt from SARS?".

In this Final Report, the Panel
presents a series of core steps that we consider
foundational to the overall public health renewal
process. The steps include an approach to the development
of an Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Agency
and strengthened infrastructure at the provincial
level, as well as a series of phased practical steps
required at the local and regional levels. These
latter steps are required to enhance local capacity
and preparedness to strengthen the protection of
patients, healthcare providers, and the public on
a day-to-day basis as well as to respond to inevitable,
high profile emergencies. |

consensus document on the epidemiology of severe
acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) |

The report, which represents
the views of experts in public health, epidemiology,
and clinical virology, draws on experiences from
all the main outbreak sites as well as a large number
of recently published studies and unpublished documents.
It also incorporates information from ongoing weekly
teleconferences of the WHO. |

A 11-member Review Panel led
by Dr Anthony Della-Porta, a WHO biosafety expert,
has completed its investigation on (a) epidemiologic
data on the single SARS case identified on 9 Sep
and (b) biosafety requirements and practices at
laboratories in Singapore. |

Quarantine
and Isolation: Lessons Learned from SARS |

The Institute for Bioethics,
Health Policy and Law at the University of Louisville
released a report which reviews lessons learned
from the use of quarantine and isolation in Canada,
China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam
during the recent SARS outbreak. The report was
funded through a cooperative agreement with CDC;
however, it is the independent work of the authors
and does not necessarily reflect the views of CDC
or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. |
